Basics of Beauty

Saturday was the first Beauty Basics Workshop that I was teaching and it was a great morning.  The women who attended had a fun time listening, asking questions and laughing as they learnt new things about their face shape, what eye type they are and then how to apply makeup to enhance their natural beauty.  I really do love teaching in that way, and with humour and belief that anyone can learn, a session like this feels very successful. The ladies who attended on Saturday really looked lovely and we did nothing that was too over the top just enhancing natural beauty.

As a Makeup Artist I feel it is my job to not change how someone looks but to enhance the beauty that is already there. Last week there was that video circulating about the girls who had a makeover and photoshoot and were actually disappointed with the results as they felt it was not a picture of who they were but what was wanting to be seen. This encouraged me in that women don’t want to be someone else necessarily they just want to be loved for who they are and feel good about themselves and that is one of the reasons I do what I do. I love to help people feel good about themselves and for a large majority, it is based on how they look.  Someone might say, well if you’re putting makeup on its not really you but I disagree. Makeup, like clothes can be an artistic expression of who you are or it can just be something that you do for you to make you feel better. Personally I don’t do my makeup for others, I do it for me as I feel good when I’m wearing it. It’s also one of the reasons I love Mary Kay Cosmetics, as the company is so much about encouraging and building self-worth.

All of these things are the basis for these workshops, because some women haven’t learned how to apply makeup that is right for them and once you know those basics you are able to do whatever you want. So I am looking forward to doing more workshops including some advanced workshops to teach other classics such a smokey eyes and winged eyeliner etc  all for fun J but also to provide the knowledge in a fun, caring way.

I hope to maybe see you at one of these workshops or in a MK class, I want to wish you a fantastic week!
